School Closure resources

If you are looking for some additional resources on top of what our lovely teachers and staff prepared and sent home last week to help your kiddos learn and get through the next 6 weeks, below are some awesome options for anything from literacy to science to art.

Khan Academy is a great resource for subjects ranging from math to economics and has a parental control board to show how your kid is progressing and how much time they spend on each subject: www.khanacademy.com

Literacy:
• Scholastic has a resource for kids at home: www.scholastic.com/learnathome

• FREE children's literacy resource featuring the world's best storytellers reading books aloud. Each video includes an activity guide with lessons for K-5 students to do at home: https://www.storylineonline.net/

• Storytime from Space! The Global Space Education Project sent children’s books to the International Space Station to be read by astronauts! https://storytimefromspace.com/

• Beale Library in California is offering Virtual Storytime everyday next week: https://m.facebook.com/bealelibrary/

• Author Oliver Jeffers will be reading a book everyday starting Monday

• Brad Meltzer, author of the “I Am” books for kids, about people in history, will be reading his books as well: https://m.facebook.com/BradMeltzer/

Science/STEM:

Guard Pest Control will be posting a daily bug/science activity to their Facebook page

• The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden will be live streaming each day at 3PM EST highlighting their animals and offering an activity you can do from home

Music:
Mr. Jon & Friends is planning to do Live music for toddlers/preschoolers in the mornings at 10:30am EST for 2 weeks

• Beginning March 16, the Met will stream a title from its Live in HD series each night through the duration of the closure. The performances, originally captured as live broadcasts in movie theatres worldwide, will begin at 7:30 PM EST: www.metopera.com

• Seattle Symphony Orchestra is providing free live stream performances! https://seattlesymphony.org/

Art:
Art for Kids Hub has a ton of amazing step by step videos on their Facebook page

McHarper Manor is doing online art classes for elementary age kids, supplies will need to be purchased ahead of time. They will be at 1pm EST and have the week of projects listed.

Ms. Meyer’s Come Draw With Me will be having art lessons everyday next week, including a special St. Patrick’s Day one! Simple supply list on her page.

• Free cartooning classes for all ages Live! Internationally syndicated cartoonist Joe Wos of MazeToons fame is taking marker into his own hands to help! Beginning on Weds March 18th Joe will be offering free live cartooning classes online for all ages. The live classes will take place on YouTube channel HowToToon at 1pm(eastern time zone), 3 days a week (Tuesdays-Thursdays). Students can access the channel by visiting www.Howtotoon.com
